Alpine Shop Short Track Dirt Crit #2

Loreen Matson, in 2009, suddenly dove in to a small mud puddle and covered herself with mud. Not sure why, the trails were quite dry and dusty conditions prevailed. Just unsure about these elite racers. Same with the DRJ, frolicking in Kiefercoli Creek after last years most delicious epic race.

Oh heavens, it appears there may be.......MUD!
Now, let me go ahead and fend off early the left wing trail Yazi's. Those who think the trail will suffer irreversible damage if we ride in anything less than dusty conditions. Let me go ahead and lay out my opinion on the matter so those who want to jump on the "how could you even think about running a race in the mud" bandwagon, or better yet, the "that jerk is the killer of trails" locomotive--that which will surely get MTB's kicked out of every park in the universe.

The rule is this. First, Castlewood is a flood plane, kay? It tends to recover from the multitude of floods each year. Also, the winter and spring bring out those riders so motivated to cross the line on a daily basis, putting ruts in the trails and then freezing over. This is not that. This is a little moisture that will, unless torrential, make the surface tacky. The silt is the dust that you see. There will be no rutting. I am worried about the grassy areas, that which will leave an imprint on the park for several days if there is significant rain. I am not wanting to do that. So we will likely shorten the staging area today.

We will also visit with the Ranger in order to determine the conditions. This will take place a couple times during the day, and towards race time. If it appears that damaging conditions exist, it will be a no go. Let's not forget a couple times last year when we got caught in the middle. Yes, it was messy for the bikes and kits. No, it did not do significant damage to the park. (however, my group went back the next day and seeded and put hay down to fix the field).

So it is game on for now. Stay tuned. Will post periodically.

Wow! Another good turnout. 156 raced, a couple got muddy, wild times had by all. There are numbers that don't have names. Pleas alert me to who they is. Pat Collier, you were showing 15th but there is no free lap rule on the dirt crits. Buddy relegated you like he did me for not wearing my helmet at the start of the B race. If you know where you were on the down lap, let me know. Great seeing you in from AZ, Collier used the be the schnizz.

What about that swag from Alpine Shop? Columbia Sportswear, Marin, holy cow.

Did anyone grab Bobby's cooler? I have two fold up chairs left somewhere around Justin Bowens group, Justin are those yours? In my car.

Huge thanks to the volunteers who helped break down, the officials for scoring well, everyone, too many to mention. Send me your fix it on the results. Series points will go up soon.

Hey Ralph, not to concerned about this for my own benefit but could effect the C standings. I raced in the B and am part of the +40 crowd but am scored as 13th in the C race. Bib number 647. Great event, had a blast.

Hi-
I am number 609 not 607- Carrie Sona. Pretty sure I'm a woman so I guess 3rd woman behind Lo and Stephanie. You have Gabrielle and Mary P as 3 and 4.
Thanks- these are so fun.

I'm the last DNF for the C race. But I didn't even race. Had a mechanical before the race started. It's not a big deal but, don't you have to start a race to not finish it?

Hi,
I was the 3rd female and finshed 37th. I am number 609 not 607. 607 is a boy who finished higher up- 13th I think.
Thanks! These are a hoot.
